The article 'the' can be used before any noun.If there is an adjective before the noun, 'the' comes before the adjective, We use 'the' with nouns:-
1) When referring to a particular person, thing or quality.

2) When referring to previously mentioned things
(The kids looked sad)
3) Before objects of which there is only one:
(The Great Wall of China, The Eiffel Tower)
4) Before positions and top posts
(The Prime Minister, The General Manager)
5) Before Superlatives
(The most beautiful, the prettiest, the best)
6) Before comparatives
(Which is The best answer?)
* However, when mentioned both items being compared, the is not used*
(Amira is prettier than Atiqah)
7) Before Ordinals
(The first child, the last daughter)
8) In certain expressions of time
(In the morning, in the 1900s)
9) When referring to public places and amenities
(I am going to the hospital, I need to go to the toilet)
